THE HOUSE IS STARTING TO TAKE SHAPE! | VANCOUVER SPECIAL RENOVATION UPDATE

Life can definitely get a little crazy, between work, getting engaged and a few unexpected delays, it’s been a while since Gary has given us an update on his Vancouver Special Renovation project.  Behind the scenes, the work has continued, and the house is finally starting to take shape!

A lot of progress has been made.  The framing is finished, the drywall has been put up all throughout, and windows and sliding glass doors have been put in - meaning this place is starting to look more like a home.

A lot of work has been going into fixing the hardwood floors.  When Gary first purchased his house, the dining room was originally enclosed, but now since the living area is open-concept the inlay direction of the hardwood floors had to be changed.  Thanks to Dunbar Hardwood, new hardwood has been put in along with the original flooring, and it is looking amazing!  Once the inlay is done, the original floors will be sanded down to match the new hardwood that was added and will be stained with a matte finish for a modern look.

To finish up the living room, the four-panel sliding door, which did have to be bumped out due to the thickness of the door, is going to be framed and maybe even be used as a design feature.  For the fireplace, Gary is planning on preserving it, and it’s just going to be cleaned up and sandblasted so it looks brand new.

Progress has also been made in other parts of the house, including the tiles and geometric flooring being put into the main bathroom, and will soon be put into the master ensuite once the sub-flooring is finished.  On the lower level of the house, there has also been progress with the home gym, with the paving tar being sanded down to concrete flooring.  The legal suite is also starting to take shape with the drywall being put up all throughout.

On the outside of the property, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done, including putting up new cedar and stucco on the exterior of the house, the garage doors will need to be put in, the deck needs to be finished, as well as an entrance to the legal suite needs to be created.  The yard still needs to be landscaped after it was torn up due to a set back when the sump and the water connection needed to be replaced.

Make sure you stay tuned for more updates as we continue following Gary’s journey, as he takes steps towards fulfilling his lifelong dream of owning a Vancouver Special and making it truly feel like home!
